Making Babies the IUI Way

From an evolutionary point of view, the impetus for creation is deeply embedded in our DNA that will emerge in many ways. But in some couples, this natural desire is hindered by the wrong human anatomy or the failure of the regulatory glands to produce reproductive hormones.

There are certainly ways to get around unwanted children. Physicians call it ART or assisted reproductive technology.

For brave couples who want to avoid their natural barriers, there are several options for them to explore. Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is the first step in the ladder.

In the past when ART was not accessible to couples because of emerging technologies, alternative therapies, such as fertility enhancement herbs, acupuncture and fertility massages, were often recommended for infertile couples. Today, couples without children can benefit from IUI, although success rates vary from case to case and depend on many factors.

Intrauterine hemorrhage is 'natural'. all ART. It is highly recommended for couples who may experience one or the following combination.

Female couples have irregular or absent menstruation. Absence of menstruation causes problems with ovulation.

Female couples have an acid cervical canal. Sperm can last up to 5 days in a conducive environment.

The female partner has blocked the Fallopian tube. Although she has a healthy ovary that produces healthy eggs, if her body is 'clogged', she will have difficulty conceiving. An unobstructed tube is sufficient for IUI to be performed.

Male couples have erectile dysfunction or impotence. ED problems can include retrograde ejaculation (sperm flow into the bladder not a natural route) or premature ejaculation (ejaculation not deposited into the uterine cavity).

Male couples have problems with sperm count or motility. Hundreds of millions of sperm are released in healthy ejaculation, but the number of sperm in men with ED or similar problems is much lower (only tens of millions).

Either partner has medical problems other than infertility.

Both couples have unexplained infertility despite being physically healthy.

In IUI, this issue is either directly or completely ignored. For example, if your wife has a contagious problem, she may be prescribed a fertility medication like clomid. If the husband has low sperm motility, the specimen is 'washed'. so only the easiest moving sperm is introduced into the uterus. 'Wash.' requires sperm in the medium and allows them to swim to a certain layer. The sperm that makes it into the lining is removed and inserted into the uterus.

The IUI procedure actually does not attack relative to other ART techniques. Insemination with a syringe is just a substitute for how the conception is done naturally. The rejuvenation is performed to bypass the cervical acid environment and to introduce the sperm into the embryo as close as possible. In other words, IUI is just a clinical way of doing it.

So what do couples expect from actual IUI procedures?

For men, he was asked to produce a sample on the day of the actual rejuvenation. The specimens were then washed and set aside for subsequent actual insemination.

For women, she may need to choose between a non-medicated or medicated cycle. In the former, it is usually the male partner who has fertility problems; in the latter, it is his reproductive cycle that hinders the process of natural conception.

For the medical cycle, he or she will be given clomid or metformin for five days, after which the follicle is measured to mature. After the follicle matures, the sperm is introduced within 36 hours to coincide with the release of the egg.

She can then leave the clinic afterwards, with instructions to follow the 'natural' that day.

The success rate of IUI is highly dependent on the age of women (older women decrease their success rate), their health, and their severity. Success levels are also influenced by male sperm performance.

Couples may need to undergo up to six IUI cycles to reach a decision. Regarding healthy couples, there is a 15% chance of conception in each cycle. This means that in the sixth cycle, the couple can expect to achieve success rates of up to 90%.

If the IUI cycle remains unproductive, the couple can discuss with the reproductive endocrinologist to design another intervention. In vitro reproduction (IVF) is one such alternative.
